What is Edme-habesha?
A mobile app for sending money, written blessings and voice blessings to celebrations in Eritrea and Ethiopia. Hosts create a celebration page; guests anywhere in the world can contribute through a QR code or link.
Who can use the app?
Anyone aged 18 or over. You can sign up with an email address, Google or Apple account. Hosts and senders both use the same app.
How do I add money?
Open the Wallet tab and choose PayPal or card. Your balance is held in US dollars and converted when you send a gift.
Which currencies are supported?
Gifts are sent in USD and shown to recipients in Ethiopian Birr (ETB) or Eritrean Nakfa (ERN) using the daily exchange rate displayed before you confirm.
Can people see how much I gave?
No. Gift amounts are only visible to you and the host. Guests on the celebration page and Blessing Wall see blessings and names (or “Anonymous” if you choose), never amounts.
How does the host receive the money?
Hosts request a payout from their wallet to a local bank account or mobile money account and can follow each step on the payout timeline in the app.
What is a voice blessing?
A short audio message recorded in the app. We transcribe it automatically and the host can translate it to Tigrinya or Amharic or have it read aloud.
Can I schedule a gift or give as a group?
Yes. Schedule a gift for a future date, or start a group pool so family and friends can contribute to one combined gift.
What if I see an inappropriate blessing?
Tap the menu on any blessing and choose Report. It is hidden immediately and the host reviews it. Hosts can also hide blessings, require approval and block senders.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Profile → “Delete my account” in the app, or follow the steps on our account deletion page if you no longer have the app.
